Challenge

When choosing to build a holiday home in concrete, you can almost predict the acoustic challenges of the many smooth surfaces. As Thomas Uhrskov himself noted:

“It might be that we’ll have a problem with the acoustics in our concrete-built holiday home.”

The holiday home needed a solution to improve the acoustics while maintaining aesthetic unity. That’s where Fog & Venø stepped in. The combination of wood panels and concrete creates a special contrast, where the grey tones of concrete combined with the warmth of wood bring a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

Insight

For several years, Thomas Uhrskov and his family have been working on creating their dream holiday home, located just 300 metres from the North Sea. The holiday home, which the family themselves call Denmark's largest DIY project, is built from concrete – a material that Thomas and his wife, Helle Schjønning, have a particular fondness for.

Situated in Klitmøller, also known as “Cold Hawaii,” the holiday home has a strong connection to nature and the family’s long-standing ties to the area. However, the raw, minimalist design needed to be complemented by elements that could both improve acoustics and add warmth to the rooms – something acoustic panels can truly provide.

Solution

To improve the acoustics and create a warm atmosphere, the family chose to integrate Fog & Venø’s LUX panels and Linoleum panels in several areas of the holiday home. The panels have been used as headboards, wall installations, and in a niche, contributing not only to acoustic comfort but also to the house's aesthetic balance between the raw and the warm.
