Architect-designed villa

When functional solutions become part of the architecture

When the owners of this modern villa set out to complete their courtyard and garage area, the aim was clear: to create an exclusive slatted look that could be integrated into both garage doors and sliding doors without compromising on functionality or design.

The result was a solution using Nordic Outdoor PRO Panels, which combine the warm look of wood with a construction that makes it possible to create large, continuous surfaces – even on moving elements such as gates.

Challenge

The project was driven by a desire to create a uniform and exclusive slatted design around the property’s garage and courtyard areas.

But the solution had to do more than just look good.

As the panels were to be fitted to both garage doors and sliding doors, there were specific requirements regarding both thickness and weight. At the same time, the clients wanted a product that could be supplied in full lengths to minimise the number of joints and create a calm, unbroken appearance.

The owners explored a wide range of alternative solutions, including systems with individual slats mounted one by one onto supporting structures. However, many of the options proved to be either too heavy, too complex or too time-consuming to install.

There was therefore a need for a solution that could combine the desired design with a simple and practical installation.

Insight

When the lines of a building’s architecture need to continue across façades, gates and screens, this places significant demands on the choice of materials.

The solution must not only blend in visually with the overall design – it must also be structurally sound.

In this project, it was particularly important to find a product that could create a light and elegant look using a natural material, whilst ensuring the structure remained sleek and functional.

At the same time, the owners wanted a high-quality solution requiring minimal maintenance, so that the look could be preserved for many years to come.

Solution

The choice fell on Nordic Outdoor PRO Panels.

The decisive factors were the combination of the panels’ full lengths, the robust Rockpanel backing board, and the overall structure’s low weight and limited thickness.

The panels’ construction made it possible to achieve the desired slatted effect without having to install each slat separately. At the same time, the overall panel structure helped to brace the doors and other elements during installation.

The Rockpanel backing board was also an advantage, as the material provides both stability and insulating properties.

The finished result creates a striking contrast between the warm wood and the house’s other materials, including the brickwork, black windows and the distinctive roof edges.

The design complements the home’s minimalist architecture whilst adding warmth and character.

The result

Today, the courtyard and garage area appear as a natural extension of the house’s architecture.

Garage doors and sliding doors appear as integrated parts of the façade, and the solution gives the impression of solid wall sections, even though the structures remain fully functional and movable.

At the same time, the project has helped to complete the overall experience of the home.

“It’s a pleasure to look at the result every single day. It takes up a large part of our outdoor space and shapes the entire approach to the house.”

The solution has also provided greater protection against wind and weather around the garage area, whilst significantly enhancing the architectural expression.

Family, friends and guests often notice the solution and ask curious questions about both the product and its appearance.

One detail that is particularly appreciated is the wood’s natural patina, which gradually gives the surface a lighter and more vibrant appearance
